INTRODUCTION

The SEMADEP Mara camp is a camp in the Masai Mara run by the Masai Community. Visit us and enjoy the greatest migration on earth, explore the rolling plains of the world’s finest park, spot the diverse range of wildlife the Mara has to offer and learn about the way of life of the local Maasai community.

SEMADEP-   is the acronym of “SekenaniMaasaiDevelopment Project”.

Sekenani-  is an area inMaasailand, in Maasai Mara  Game Reserve. So, this is a Maasai village in Maasai Mara! Essentially,  SEMADEP is a project designed to develop the Maasai community living in Sekenani area socially, economically and politically in a sustainable manner. The project has grown into(SEMADEP NGO) that is currently covering the entire Narok South District. SEMADEP NGO established, the SEMADEP Camp in the year 2006 as an income generating activity to support their community projects rather than entirely depends on the donor funding to bring sustainable development to thetheir Maasai community. SEMADEPcontinue to seek more donors, partners and well wishers to support any of their community projects thus creating an enabling environment, where this group of dedicated Maasai; could see their dedication, commitment and resilient, enable them realize their full potential of charting their own development in manner that is compatible with their culture, lifestyle and land!

    • Semadep camp- an income generating project for the ,SEMADEP NGO. The revenue accrued, goes to direct benefits for the members of the Maasai community of sekenani area, besides sustaining and expanding the camp itself.
    • Sekenani community health centre -  a community owned heath facility that is supported by the semadep project through the support of the Semadep Holland Foundation, GOK, the community, cisco and other stake holders. Besides the construction of an inpatient facility, equipping and maintanance, employing 2 medical personel, the camp in partnership with cisco, Orange/Telcom Kenya and other stake holders is soon unveiling a telemedicine project in the facility.
    • Semadep school -  a community kindargaten/pre-school for young needy children who could not afford quality education mostly offered by expensive private academies. Besides the construction and maintenance of the 2 classrooms with support from partners, we employ 2 well trained teachers, 1 cook and we support the feeding programe for the young kids as well as provide the necessary learning, teaching and recreational materials for the kids.
    • Sekenani water project - we supported the establishment of this community water project to protect the local community from unnecessary water borne diseases which had been a great challenge to the community in the past.
    • OVC(Orphans and Vulnerable Children) programe -  with support from the Semadep Holland Foundation which is currently sponsoring 2 High school students and 10 Primary school students the camp with support from other stake holders like USAid is currently supporting 1244 children in the programe with various basic needs.
    • Sekenani community knowledge centre - we collaborated with cisco and AfriAfya in the establishment of this centre in a bid to provide the local, marginalized community an opportunity to learn and easily access basic and advanced IT(technology) services, the only place; where traditions meet technology!
    • Maasai cultural Tourism and conservation - we partner with other stake holders like the travel foundation in the UK, Tribal voice communication and the MaasaiManyattas Association to promote cultural tourism and conservation and strive to end the menace of tour guides exploitation thus enhance equitable benefits to the Maasai people,…!!!? The Maasai are badly exploited and this exploitation is profoundly worst on your part as a tourist or tour operator!!?
